Tribute to Toonhead Special

Hello Listeners,
As you’re probably well-aware of by now, we lost Toonhead, one of our former broadcasters of The Q Online, back on the evening of October 29, 2017, to medical complications. What you might not know, is it’s thanks to Toonhead, that I even heard of this station in the first place, roughly ten years ago back in 2007, and am thankfully, a part of staff today, bringing you guys some entertainment to help you get going on Friday mornings. Because of this, and because our lovely station will be turning 11-years-old on Monday, November 20, I felt it to be necessary, that I, DJ Celrock, put on a special Tribute to Toonhead Special, in honor, of this great Internet radio broadcaster we lost, who was not only important to The Q Online and entertained us all with music and comedy between 2007 and 2010, but just, overall, an important person in the Internet radio community as a whole, as well as the blindness community, and most importantly, a great friend to so many people.

On Sunday, November 19, 2017, I invite you all, to come join me, for three hours, as I bring you all, a show full of a wide variety of music and comedy, that toonhead himself, and those who knew him, will enjoy. This show will air from 01:00 p.m. to 04:00 p.m. Eastern in the afternoon, and we’re doing the show, Toonhead Style. That means, we’ll have two hours of music, and the final hour of the show will be devoted to comedy, just like what Toonhead use to do on his shows, even as far back as his days at The Q Online. You can not only expect to hear songs and comedy bits that I think Toonhead would have liked, or possibly played at one time, given his wide tastes in music and comedy, but I already know I’m going to feature a couple of songs, that I remember hearing for the first time on his shows way back when, along with some of the artists he paid tribute to after they, too, passed, such as Prince, and Tom Petty.

I happen to know from when I was able to listen to his shows, he enjoyed playing your requests. And while I have some of my own stories to share about my past with Toonhead, and songs I want to play, as mentioned above, don’t be shy. Let’s send in those requests, and give Toonhead up there in Radio Heaven, a show he’d be proud of.

If you want to ensure I use my library to the best of its ability, and help me scope out the songs I have on file that maybe you, yourself, heard for the first time on his shows, or maybe you requested them on his shows, even songs that just, make you think of him are fine, or whatever the case, if it relates to Toonhead, please, I want to see what songs and commedy bits you enjoyed with Toonhead, or maybe he gave it to you as a present, to those of you who knew him more personally, and better than I did. Is my hard drive fit, to bring back, The Hard Drive, for one afternoon? Why not head on over to http://www.theqonline.net/djcelrock, and find out, by searching it up in my library, and sending in your request. I’d also appreciate it, if you’d leave in the comment box on your request, why you’ve requested that particular song to be played on the Tribute to Toonhead Special. I want to hear your stories, what did Toonhead, mean to you?

You can also contact me directly, perhaps there’s something you want me to play that I don’t have, or you just, want to share a story. You can email me, at djcelrock@theqonline.net, with your stories and requests, and I’ll see that the requests get played on air, and who knows, I might even read your stories on the air too! I even accept audio recordings, if you’d rather record a short piece of something you’d like to say to Toonhead, or about him, for me to play on the air. If you’re going to submit voice clips though, please make sure they’re in .mp3 format, and the clip is no more then 3 to 5 minutes long, because we’ve got three hours of music and commedy to get to as well, and given how popular he was in the Internet radio community, and how many staff were with us at the time of his broadcasting days at this station, it’s quite possible, we’re going to be using up every precious second, to the max.

Maybe though, you’d rather get in touch with me while on air. The ways to do that, are as followed.
Give me a Call on Skype, at the Skype ID of TheQOnline, and get your voice heard Live!
Contact me on Twitter, at either, theqonline, or djcelrock
And I’ll also have Facebook Messenger and iMessage up during the show.

At the moment, I’ll take your requests during the show, though if I have a ton of requests sent in by Saturday, November 18, I may have to not take any during the show, it will all depend on how many come in, what our time looks like, etc.

I also understand, his death has been hard on all of us emotionally, including, yours truly. One of the main reasons why this special won’t be airing for two weeks, other than figuring, it would be a nice way to celebrate our station’s upcoming anniversary. So please, take your time with those requests and stories if you still need some time to calm down emotionally, I don’t need them until November 18 at the latest, especially if you submit requests I don’t already have, or send in audio clips of yourself with messages for, or about Toonhead. I want this show to be special, for me, and all of you, and something, where we can laugh, and cry together, as we remember a great entertainer and friend, in the Internet radio community, who by far, helped pave the way, for The Q Online, Internet radio with variety.

I’m looking forward to bringing you all, this Tribute to Toonhead Special, and with that said, I hope to see you there. Rest in peace Toonhead, we’ll never forget you.

Sincerely Yours,
DJ Celrock

Tribute To A Former Broadcaster

As you can see from the title of this post, this will be a sad one. It is with a heavy heart that I write this to all of you. On October 29, 2017, the online radio community lost a wonderful broadcaster and friend. Chris Skarstad, 46, died suddenly due to heart complications. He will be missed greatly by all his friends, family and co-workers. I remember him when he used to be here with us on The Q Online, many years ago, and he brought a great vibe and atmosphere to the station.

Here is a quote, from Toonhead himself, that I would like to share (taken from another online radio station’s own tribute): “I was born May 11th, 1971 in Kankakee, IL and have been driving people nuts ever since! Seriously, I’ve been at this broadcasting thing since 1999 and it’s been lots of fun! I’m pretty much like everyone else here. I love to broadcast of course, but I also love playing games, chatting with friends, eating good food and just really enjoying life.”

May you rest in peace, Chris. Hopefully you are looking down on us now and enjoying all the wonderful music in Heaven. Lost but not forgotten!

ToonheadIn loving memory of Chris Skarstad
